Outdoor Family Activities For Fall in Mt. Juliet

Chiropractic Mt. Juliet TN Family Walking

With children back in school in Mt. Juliet, pumpkin spice everything in the air, leaves changing colors and the weather cooling down, many families are thinking about how to make the most of the fall season.

Why Go Outside?

According to the Harvard Health Letter, “spending time outdoors seems to have discernible benefits for physical and mental health”.
Sunlight hitting the skin begins a process that leads to the creation and activation of vitamin D. Studies suggest that this vitamin helps fight certain conditions, from osteoporosis and cancer to depression and heart attacks.

Getting outdoors can also help with concentration. Children with ADHD seem to focus better after being outdoors. It might be a stretch to say that applies to adults, but if you have trouble concentrating, outdoor activity may help.

Outdoor Activities For Fall

  1. Go Leaf Hunting. Pack a camera and stay on the lookout for different leaves. This time of year when the trees are changing, the vibrant green leaves are melting into reds and golds. You can go to a local park, visit the mountains or just walk down the street in your neighborhood to spot different color leaves.
  2. Pick Your Own Fruit At A Local Farm Or Orchard. There is nothing like the fun of picking your own apples or getting to try home-made goodies from the local farmers. Within an hour of Mount Juliet, Tennessee there are many local farms that offer fruit picking, and of course, pumpkin patch visits in October.
  3. Pine Cone & Acorn Art. Leaves aren’t the only things falling off of trees at this time of the year. Pretty much everything falls off trees, including pine cones and acorns. Make a fall-themed arts and crafts project after collecting some of each.
  4. Make S’mores. It’s true that s’mores can be made indoors. But there’s nothing like roasting the marshmallow over the fire, and nothing like placing the whole s’mores sandwich on a stick for a melted, toasty, sticky good time.
